What Defines a Person Tuesday, Apr 22 2008
Culture and Society and Just a Thought and People and Quotes and Sayings People, Thoughts 12:01 am
A person is defined by his actions, not by what is inside.
Personally, I find this statement wrong. Because we often find ourselves in situations, where we are forced to do an action that conflicts with what is inside.

Well, I actually think that this statement is wrong. Where did you find it?
I feel like the opposite is true; what defines a person is what lies inside him/her!
Actions are easy to fake
April 22, 2008 at 12:21 am
I don’t remember well, but I heard it somewhere. And well I completely agree with you, I couldn’t have said it better.
April 22, 2008 at 12:41 am
Hmm, how about the combination?
in my humble opinion, your actions should match what’s inside you, if you are good from the inside, you actually have to show it and vise versa, people don’t know what’s inside you, that’s why you have to show it, i guess that’s what’s defines a human.

hmm, il insan mish mawaqef as ppl usually tend to say. law heik, ma kanat (il a3mal bil niyyat).. unless the intention is true, the action can be faked as hala said/
April 22, 2008 at 8:35 am
Maioush,
In most cases you’re true, one’s actions must match what’s inside. But what about those situations where they don’t? Is it fair to judge them?
Dimz,
I guess the “Al a3mal bil Nyat” explains it all.
April 22, 2008 at 12:17 pm
well…as humans we tend to judge it a natural, and the person who judge motley have facts about the judged person. These facts are based upon the reaction and outside look.
this topic reminds me of a Hadeeth Shareef that says
The story here support my theory of people judging people maybe but it helps realizing the nature of people.

Whatever action you do is, in essence, comes from you inner core.
No matter what you try to show to the world, what you have inside will always float on the surface, one way or another.

khalas don’t argue, kolshi ana ba7keeh mazboot..ma ana 3antar
j/k

TripleM,
The Hadeeth has summed up what’s in my mind I guess. And I go agree with you, we often tend to judge people. At the end, we are humans.
Abed,
Walak jawaher, ma7lani o ana mnaqshak.
But I do believe that one way or another, it will eventually float to the surface.
April 23, 2008 at 7:42 pm
mmm I agree with the statment
because no one will know what is inside u unless u show it with an action right !?
elm5abba majhool
7aseh 7alee mfalsafeh
April 23, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Well you have a point, but my point is what if you couldn’t show it for some reason? Or was forced to do something you don’t believe in?!
Ah wallah majhoul. Lool, no you’re not, I admire the way you think.
April 23, 2008 at 11:46 pm
I absolutely agree…
Sometimes we’d do somethings under the influence of a certain force that can affect us but that doesn’t mean it’s what we are…and i can understand what Abed means, human nature contains all contradictions and that’s why the most righteous people may sin. I think that’s different !
April 24, 2008 at 6:01 pm
oh this is kinda wrong o kinda right at the same moment dude!
because people who only reads your action will be jugding you on that. but on the other hand, people who know you well, will know what exactly you talking about..i hope you know what i mean
April 24, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Rasha,
Indeed, the human mind are full of contradictions. Well hope that none will be in such situation.
Maher,
I totally understand you. But the problem is not with the people who know you, it’s with the people who don’t!

I was blog hopping and ended up here. I’d say ur spot on. But nothing is black and white. What is inside is no good to the person him/herself and to others if it does not translate into actions.
I believe that people who don’t follow what’s inside them with their actions are living lies. Sad fact of the matter is, for whatever reasons or circumstances, most of us are living that way.
April 28, 2008 at 5:27 am
hmm.. in a person we’re talking about personality that concludes to actions. And personality is a complex idea shifted in people’s believes, values, in and external effects. IIn my opinion, it’s a little bit of both and very variable depending on the individual in subject.
April 29, 2008 at 1:21 pm
More often than not, most of us tend to react to certain situations under pressure from either those around us or out of fear of their judgement; so yes, what lies inside does not necessarily manifest itself in one’s actions. It is what makes a person himself or herself; only sadly, a time comes when we grow so entirely accustomed to acting according to socially acceptable norms that the person inside kind of just…dies down. Hibernates would be a more comforting word.
April 29, 2008 at 11:03 pm
Extiinct,
In general yes, people who have standards and principles in life, should work and live according to them.
But as you said, it’s a sad fact.
Batoul,
Personally, as you said, as a complex matter. I believe that one can form his personality to a certain extent. Likewise, he can follow what’s inside him to a certain extent. All in all, it depends on the individual in subject, yet sometimes extreme circumstances have their effect.
Manutdfanatic,
I can relate to that. Yes personalities are affected so much by the norms and traditions that surround us. In order to fight and to resist what you can’t accept in the society, society will not accept you in return. But I believe that one must find a balance between this and that, and from that comes the unique personality.

I also think its true, when you say action it also means the situation. What really defines a preson?
- Good will
- Friends ( tell me who your friends are and i will tell you who are you)
- Family
Men are made not born
May 4, 2008 at 10:34 pm
I completely agree with you on the last sentence, men are made not born. Moreover, I believe that leaders are made not born as well.
